The Right Attacks Again

I saw this on Mark Elrod’s blog….This is pretty sad. And some people wonder why Christians are viewed as fundamentalist. The Lame-O reports that “Update (4-21-08 @6:45 pm): The sign has been changed as the result of public outcry.”

I don’t understand this either. It is the mark of ignorance, perhaps. When someone starts this stuff up, I ask them why it is okay to have an ally in Jordan named Hussein, but not one here.

who says they are a right wing church. maybe they’re hillary supporters.

Like “Bush=Hitler” signs, this kind of thing is intellectually weak and petty.

Matt Lee — Good point! I am sure they have a sign for her too.

This makes me chuckle…

At least one could maybe possibly in a roundhouse sorta way link the “big brother” steps of Bush to Fascism…but yes I agree, a definite sign of ignorance and fundamentalism (are those not synonymous by now?).
And seriously, who puts a “u” in Hmm…?!

On another sad note: I listened to three adults with college educations try to parse out the meanings and differences between the words “Islam” and “Muslim.” That nonsensical “Islamist” word must be confusing folks.
Could you look at a post I just wrote on Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and their history of racism? I must be such an ignoramus. I didn’t know about their ugly past.
Any comments, analysis, enlightenment or patronizing comments will be welcome!

I think that the assumption that it’s hate or fear based is a pretty reasonable one to make. My guess would be that we’re pretty firmly in McCain country at this church; I’m betting their sign for Hilary wouldn’t be much more favorable than this one.
April 24, 2008 at 1:32 am
wow…harsh- I have to disagree because there are relatively no fundamentalists at HCHS- but I would def. agree with the ignorance part…
April 24, 2008 at 1:59 am
Sorry…I did not mean to imply we have a bunch of fundamentalist here.

I personally have been just as bad as regards President Bush and the Republican party. I know that I’m not the only one, because I do talk to other people. I think I’m going to stop calling the kettle black and resolve to respect whoever is in office, if for no other reason than because it’s a freaking hard job that I am thankful that I don’t have to do.

Not here Kristi….They took it to Bill so I am going to do the same. I am still waiting for Republicans to oust conservatives. Oh, they are the same people.

This is one small congregation. They are responsible for the sign…not “The Right”. It’s important to keep our paint strokes from being too broad.
If someone with the same hair color as me does something stupid, and people said it was the work of all people of that hair color everywhere, it would sound pretty ridiculous. I realize, Ed, that you have strong feelings about those on the “Right” side of politics, but let’s keep this in perspective: This is a sign drawn up by the Jonesville Church of God: Nothing more, nothing less.

carson, carson– stickin’ it to the man!
re the image– funny & sad, not scary… btw, are they using a FEMA trailer for church?

I am going to have to agree with Mr. Kirk- The headlines to any conservative blog post could just as easily read “The Left Strikes Again!” and have this story following …Do
all liberals believe what Rev. Wright says? Of course not, it would be a hasty generalization to say so, just as it is a hasty generalization to include the whole “right” into a sign put up by the podunk church of God in podunk townsville USA…This is undeniably a poster-boy example of conservative traditionalist ignorance, which I am afraid is far too pervasive in the US

I am being politically biased on purpose. I realize this is a very isolated thing; but, I thought it would be fun. The truth of the matter is many “new” Democrats this election year are former conservatives excited about Obama….How religious I do not know.

Isn’t this church ( I use the term loosely) risking its tax exempt status by being so overtly political?
April 30, 2008 at 8:36 am
wow, I wonder what sermons are like at that church.
May 1, 2008 at 6:56 am
I think that this church is full of a lot of ignorant people if they really do believe that. However, I also believe that you can’t use this as an example of all Christian churches. I agree completely with what Kirk said. Also, i think it would be very interesting if you did a blog piece on Rev. Wright.
