Fear

Just read an interesting article on Rich Little’s blog; it was written by Don McLaughlin… a very popular figure. I have always been involved in academic politics. Boards that fear progress and thus promulgate the norm is typical in many places. They fear those who think differently, look differently, and articulate differently. Don’s point here is great: “Like it or not, fair or not, true or not, Dr. McLarty’s appointment to Harding’s presidency has clearly marked for many a solidified commitment to live in the past. It is not personal, but it is institutional.”
